Thermodynamics? What thermodynamics? If it gets hot just use nethercap refrigerate it. /s
IIRC one of the US nuclear apocalypse bunkers is built over an underground river, as much for the heat discharge as for the water. After that by far the biggest PITA is farming, although if you’re not expecting decades you can do cans in a much smaller area.

Been playing since 2006 💪💪💪💪💪
I even dug up the little column that tipped me off, out of pure nostalgia!
What a time to be alive! Watching worldgen on my Dell potato was mind-blowing
Impressive. I started with one of the early 3D additions.
TBH I’ve never been very good at fort mode, because I’m perfectionistic. It either gets ruined and I lose interest or I build an impenetrable uber-fort that’s boring and lose interest.
Lord knows how much time I’ve spent on settings and worldgen, though, or just wandering around as an adventurer.

God, I was so confused in that early 2D fortress version when I went to check out my fortress in adventurer mode. “Why the fuck are all these stairs here!? Didn’t I just dig to the right???”
And subsequently, I was confused when initially shifting to 3D fortresses. “This embark location is supposed to have iron, but I’ve literally mined out the entire screen and found nothing?? WHERE IRON”
Finding Z-levels in fortress mode was like Buddhist enlightenment or someshit. XD

I’ve always loved fortress mode, but I’ve been real hyped about the new siege mechanic update that make it so fortresses are no longer impenetrable by the simple addition of a raised bridge + locked door. I’ve just been waiting to get in a real dedicated mood to try it out.
