@xgranade I feel there's a productive overlap between kindness, politeness, and flirtation, AND that it's a useful thing to know when to lean AWAY from that overlap.
@jmeowmeow Absolutely, yeah. Flirting is wonderful when done respectfully and with consent, it's a shame to see people do it so badly and transgressively that it breaks the trust needed to do it well.

What do we do to nurture and repair trust?
Many circles, groups small enough to know and be known, different ground rules for different spaces. Good old human technology of human orgs, with all the good and bad history that's worth remembering so we don't have to reinvent it every generation, or for every new pop media fan club.
