We're trying to resurrect the Keystone XL pipeline and cutting agricultural research is a "necessary evil?"

Has the Carney government lost the plot entirely?

@JEmphatically The issue is the cutbacks don’t just postpone and pause research, it abandons decades of work, long established programs with immense value that will never be regained. Agriculture is one of Canada’s super powers, but I guess we can only have one that serves its foreign owners.

Public inquiry into foreign interference in elections should target Big Oil

Canada’s apex oil and gas lobby group may rue the day it made foreign-funded political meddling a public issue. For good reason, China’s election interference has sparked outrage in Canada. But China’s ability to sway a broad spectrum of Canadian voters is far weaker than the Canadian Association of Petroleum Producer’s (CAPP) foreign-funded political interference. […]

@JEmphatically Lets burn $500 million to save 5? This is what’s being done.

What’s being abandoned, how much has been invested. No answers

@pinhman It's unbelievably short sighted. Reminds me of the Harper government. What are we even doing!?

The Harper Government’s War on Science - CCPA

Many scientific programs terminated, many scientists fired Canada’s Information Commissioner, Suzanne Legault, is investigating the muzzling of federal scientists, but far more troubling is the actual elimination of scientific programs and the firing of scientists. On that front, Canada’s federal environmental and oceans science and scientists have taken a terrible beating in the Harper government’s War

@JEmphatically Is this just a short term cynical political calculation? Liberals get little support in Prairies? Why put federal dollars into programs that don’t translate into immediate political support?

Meanwhile while rural western Canada faces long term drought issues made worse by climate warming it continues to vote for the party that denies this issue.

And research to address this will be abandoned
@JEmphatically And the cutbacks put innovation in the hand of the largely foreign owned highly integrated multinationals that own much of Agriculture. This is only going to cause more severe food inflation and less economic security in Agriculture

Will it be more damaging than Harper undemocraticly closing the wheat pool?
