I'm on my yearly hunt for a QuickBooks SimpleStart 2009 replacement. Once again I'm finding nothing practical for my 2-4 yearly uses of QuickBooks. I think the cheapest option is $40 a month, which is insane for how little I use (and how even less I want to use) this stuff.

I ended up signing up for QuickBooks online, which was a nightmare of declining add-ons, and still had to post sign up cancel extra stuff they snuck in. Their process of of importing my data involved connecting to a Windows VM on AWS and running a stripped down version of their desktop software. Took forever and felt like the biggest hack I've seen in a while.

End up finally in there, only to find out importing CSV data with their web app is worse than just manually typing it in. 🤬

Gave up on QBO right after that. And went back to my 2009 version of QuickBooks, but had an LLM write a script for AutoHotkey on windows, so that I can copy a row (or rows) in Numbers and then paste them in via Remote Desktop -> QB Windows and it converts it into the right combo of paste/tabs/return to get data in.
@paul AccountingBot is going to be great!

@paul your primary device is a Mac, isn't it? Did they stop making Quickbooks Desktop for Mac?

If they did, I'll need to start looking for a replacement. Like you, I use it in very superficial ways, but I'm familiar with it so inertia wins for now.

@sysop408 I think its generally a > $1k/year sub for that. I see some comments that makes it seem like they still might sell it outright, but seems like they hide it as much as possible.

@paul it appears that they still sell it, but you have to talk to a sales agent to get it.

I've been on Quickbooks for Mac for about 20 years now. I'm currently running the 2020 version on Tahoe.

I've had to upgrade for compatibility reasons every 5 or 6 years. I don't remember how much I get fleeced each time. I think it's somewhere in the $300 range. Pricey to be sure, but better than having a sub.

How can I purchase QuickBooks Desktop Pro 2024?

Where can QuickBooks Desktop Pro 2024 be purchased?  I am not interested in QuickBooks online or other subscription services.

@sysop408 if the sub is $1k+ how much do you think the full on purchase ends up being…

@paul I don't know how much they ask for on a new license. My upgrade price each time has been a few hundred dollars.

It was a long time ago, but my first license was nowhere near $1000. If it were that pricey or my upgrade price was anywhere near that, there's no way I'd be using it.

@paul that’s wild, I’m so sorry
