Do you remember your first favorite book?

My first real favorite: the fairy-tale The Golden Ball.
Today I looked up the author and discovered he’s still alive: a scholar, professor, and author of academic works on totalitarianism, information policy, and hybrid wars. I may never read those. But I will absolutely reread the first book I ever loved.

There’s something very moving about smart, busy, serious people who still choose to write for children.

@readit @bookstodon Among books that were read to me as a child, and which I later read to my children, I think The Velveteen Rabbit was my favorite. Or, perhaps more accurately, it is my first favorite as an adult looking back on childhood books. My first favorite that I read myself was Charlotte’s Web. I still adore those two books and have given them as gifts to friends.
