This is an automatic post from a script that walks a list of instances
four times a day querying the user count on each instance.

A tabular version of the instance and account counts by instance type is
available at https://mrp.net/fediverse/software/

This graph show the growth of users across all instance types compared with mastodon for the last 365 days. Misskey doesn't normally report active users.

There are currently 41,284,781 registered users across the monitored Fediverse.

@fediversecounter any idea what makes up the blue (fedoverse) spike at the end of this chart? Scrolling back looks like it's been in those higher numbers for over 6 days.

@dabblecode looks like two writefreely instances each reporting over 8 million users. I've reported it to one of them as they have contact details but the other doesn't. In both cases I have blocked them, one may come back if they fix or explain the data.
