I just blocked a trollbot for saying it's "childish" to criticize the German government's woefully insufficient climate plan because "it's the first step in the right direction."
It's childish to gleefully applaud Merz and Reiche. They work for the fossil fuels lobby, and now they want to greenwash their track record and evade responsibility by maybe or maybe not (remember, it's still just a plan) throwing a few eurocents towards the green energy.
As for "the first step" - it's all good if we're talking about a person. If somebody recently awakened to the reality of climate change and wants to do their part, you should help and encourage them.
But for a government, "the first step in the right direction" in 2026 is just a continuation of climate denial. Governments have think tanks. They learned about climate change in the early 1950s. And ever since we keep hearing the same "first step" tune as if it were an achievenment.
