So over the past two days, the right of trans folk defining their identities have been taken away from them and given to district-level boards. “Alluring” people (whatever) in “becoming” trans is now a crime. Max punishment for rape of trans folk has been reduced from 10 to 2 years.
All done with zero consultation, next-to-zero debate in Parliament, and with a voice vote. Actual consultative committees- those appointed by the government and Supreme Court- have just been ignored.
@cydonian Any source for the law which i can read?

Here’s a summary of the actual bill, although it doesn’t mention the bit about punishment for rape. https://scroll.in/latest/1091663/parliament-passes-trans-rights-amendment-bill

As far as I can tell, this was the extent of consultation with the trans community: https://m.thewire.in/article/lgbtqia/only-we-define-ourselves-rights-activists-backed-by-opposition-mps-demand-rollback-of-regressive-transgender-amendment-bill

Parliament passes trans rights amendment bill

A motion to refer the bill to a select Parliamentary committee was rejected.
