Strikes me that we have adults trying to cast children's childhoods in terms of what theirs was.
Childhood for today means mobile phones and social media. It doesn't mean playing dress up or jump rope ....

@Geri @BashStKid the impression I get is kids would, and do still play outdoors when they are allowed to, but parents are worried about them being knocked down by cars (probably due to the horrendous driving they witness every day on the school run, over here it sometimes looks like a 1980s wildlife documentary from Anglia TV where animals in the jungle are fighting for space at a watering hole).
Teenagers also would go outdoors, but many are worried of bullying/violence from their own peers plus (in towns/cities, especially London) getting hassle from old bill for "hanging around".
So its a vicious circle and young people can't be blamed for staying indoors with their phones and other devices..
