Those like Trump, who lack empathy, kill without feeling or remorse.

They exist "in a state of insatiable self-worship. The idol they have erected to themselves must be constantly fed."

"It demands abject obedience & subservience, publicly on display at Trump cabinet meetings."

Source Chris Hedges Report 26 Mar

Note: Hedges uses the term "soullessness" to mean a lack of empathy. "Psychopathy" would be a lay term for it.

…. or just not believers in a religion that has soul as a concept.

@jastity

I take your point, but I think it misses what Hedges is getting at.

Not sure if you read the piece.

He's describing a specific pathological state (being dead inside) while acknowledging the distinction between secular and metaphysical ways of thinking about it.

@DrALJONES

His description is offensive, and he hasn’t thought it through. I don’t have a soul. I don’t believe you have either, but if it pleases you to imagine you do, go for it. To paint all people who do not buy into this religious delusion as dead inside is religious discrimination, and has nothing to do with psychology which tries to base itself on science. I’m sure he could have thought of a better term if he’d thought about it.

@jastity

That's a complete misinterpretation of what I said. Dead inside is pathology.

I'm an atheist. I don't have a soul. But I don't take offence at how other people live their lives...
