I was really bummed about seeing the TV series Shetland on britbox.

When I read the Ann Cleeves books years ago, I had a very different mental picture of Jimmy Perez and Duncan. Specifically, I was sure Jimmy was Hispanic, had an imposing mustache, and always wore a fedora hat, and he identified as an outsider. In the TV series, he is very different. For Duncan, it was less of a disconnect, but still it was a distractingly different appearance.

Had to stop watching the show after just 2 episodes in, because I couldn't stop dwelling continually on my internal disconnect. It's a shame, because it's set in a beautiful place.

@AncTreat5358 I found the same way back when it started out on BBC4 but the tv series did grow on me. It is beautifully and atmospherically shot.

I can’t think of anything offhand that was better than the books when adapted for tv or big screen production.
