Whenever I heard about yet another new exhibition or publication by Alexander Kluge, the thought would cross my mind that this might be the last one during his lifetime. Now that moment has actually arrived, and I find it so sad that he has passed away. He will always be an inspiration for me, not least because, even in his old age, he remained open to the present, to history, to discourses; approaching everything with a depth of interest that I find unparalleled.

#AlexanderKluge #RIP

I feel I need to write even more about everything Kluge created than he himself wrote in his 94 years—for his films were always: food for thought, inspiration for writing, threads to be picked up, and never merely entertainment. It was always about thinking things through and telling stories, where one ends up in the French Revolution, in Ancient times, the Bronze Age, or in the negation of being, and Kluge was able to show us everywhere the connections that exist between us and humanity.
