##Lost Archives of NVDA Culture

There are several sad realities about the culture of NVDA Screen reader. . let's mourn them one by one.

  • The website changed several times, first one was around 2007, when kulgan.net stop being the place of NvDA and @NVAccess is established.then, 2011, when they stop using TracWiki way of creating websites and host them with wordpress.then in 2016 there are some transission as well.In that transisions we lost quite number of things.most significant are the early changelogs and versions documentations of nvda https://fosstodon.org/@NVAccess/116242868304097887AS @NVAccess pointed out on the reply, "Here is the first snapshot of kulgan.net/nvda/ from the Wayback machine, from 3rd Feb 2007: https://web.archive.org/web/2007020306 4755/http://www.kulgan.net/nvda/
  • We also loss the complete archive of all podcast audio files, only episode notes are available.https://www.nvaccess.org/category/podcast/
  • we do not have the second and third annual report by NVAccess when they made them available. 2008-2009 and 2009-2010 annual reports are in pdf thus not archived anywhere.
  • the earliest news shown to us in the nvaccess news page date back to NV Access Recognised as Outstanding Disability Organisation as part of Queensland’s DisabilitySeptember 26, 2011 9:19 pm https://www.nvaccess.org/category/news/page/12/Strawling the archive, we can see that during the 2012 transision, NVAccess started their news page from scratch, letting go all other older posts. It should be their CMS migration limitation that noone looked at at that time. but, when you look through the archive page you can see that the news section goes back to 2007-07-14, during which first started their website. As in those days NVAccess used a one-page news archive you can read everything here. https://web.archive.org/web/20111105062323/http://www.nvaccess.org/blogSome of the greatest blog post that I recommend are as follows.
  • • Funding for 2011-2012
    • Donation Update
    • NVDA Needs You
    • Help NV Access to support Multi touch devices in the NVDA screen reader
    • Mozilla Foundation Grant to improve web access in NVDA, this is the first post
    • other grant related post.

  • this is the saddest part of my discovery, but let's hope that it's a glitch. Starting from 2025, NVAccess in-the-media page, only shows one link to a media coverage of the NVDA screen reader, and it's kept out-of-date since then. https://www.nvaccess.org/in-the-media/but, when we look at the archived 2024 page, we can find massive 55 items and everything have the power of bringing us back to the early age.https://web.archive.org/web/20250531181148/https://www.nvaccess.org/in-the-media/
  • Do let me know what else needed to be found. WE as users have all the responsibility and duty to preserve the culture of this truly, Blind Screen Reader.

@kaveinthran The media links are still about, but you're right, there isn't currently a viewable list of them, I'll work on fixing that, thanks for raising it. For the podcast, I did share links to the files here awhile back when someone asked.
@NVAccess Thank you so much, I guess for the Podcast, the audio files are missing, am I right?

@kaveinthran No there was a thread on here a couple weeks ago .... It was with YOU: https://fosstodon.org/@NVAccess/116219731217177746

If you wish to just download the 10 mp3 episodes, the url looks like:
    https://www.
    nvaccess.org/wp-content/legacy/files/podcast/Episode1.mp3
(change 1 to any number between 1 and 10)"

@NVAccess Omg I missed that post, thanks for bringing that up again. This is really valuable.
@NVAccess Do you mean that it's still in the about page?
@kaveinthran I missed a connection here - what were you looking for on the about page?
@NVAccess Oh no, i'm just confused when you said that "the media links are still about"
@kaveinthran Ah sorry, I just meant I can see (from the backend) we still have all the media links - I just need to work out how to get them back publically in a useable format - since https://www.nvaccess.org/in-the-media/ clearly isn't working the way it used to
