Im giving #elementaryOS a try for a while. AS the list of linux distros & desktop environments who have explicitly rejected LLM code from the project is short; and I dont feel like going through the mental labor required from Gentoo this second, and im mostly an x86-64 dude this second.

@trashheap Curious how this experiment goes for you. I spent a couple years running Gentoo and I loved it, but in the end I have too many machines to maintain, and "update day" for Gentoo was pretty rough for me. They have a bindist thing going on now, so I probably need to look at that but... 🤷

Anyway, same as you, I'm considering a move (from Debian in my case). Not sure where yet but Elementary is on the short list.

@Lnklnx I think the biggest thing is that im typically not a "gnome guy" but I kind of am fluent with macOS. AS work makes me pick between mac or PC, and I didn't feel like touching Windows 11.

I don't dislike MUCH about elementary OS so far, save for the complete lack of legacy system tray support; it inherits from gnome. Which I DO find tedious. BUT I think I can work around with judicious app selection in a couple of places.

@Lnklnx Gentoo was actually the first linux distribution I ever really clicked with after BeOS imploded in the early 2000s. AND building the system up from bits like that has some appeal; still. But not today. AND I know if I hit something I feel like I ought to recompile, it will just bring me pain later.
