Could somebody please explain to me why I can no longer synchronize my desktop computer's clock with ANY time server

Even after I restart the time service from the GUI

Even after I restart the time service from the command prompt

Even though the manual time is accurate

How the hell can it be a dying CMOS battery, the time isn't resetting itself on restart, and besides which this motherboard is only 2 years old!

And no honestly I'm not really looking for an explanation right now, I'm just extremely FURIOUS and I'm ready to obliterate this piece of shit computer with a baseball bat

@prios is the time wildly going off? Which OS?

If Windows, I used to have to use https://www.timesynctool.com/ ...bc out-of-the-box their shit is so borked now.

Although it's looking like this must be a network problem. I can't do synchronizations on my laptop today, either. o_o (Which is very, very strange, because the last successful automatic sync was two days ago.)

@prios I guess also make sure your computer's (or network’s) firewall isn't interfering with port 123 (UDP) either.

@colinstu Well, maybe it isn't a network problem after all. NetTime works fine on both my desktop and laptop without any fiddling with my firewall, whereas Windows' own time service still doesn't (regardless of which time server I use).

I'm... going to go ahead and blame Microsoft vibe-coding.

@prios I was having Windows Time server/service issues for quite some time. It was fine through the Win7 days but it gradually got worse it felt like. Even by 8.1 I swear I used to setup tasks to restart services because they just weren't working like they should be, and then eventually found this tool.

Whereas on macOS and linux ... zero NTP issues the entire time.

Microsoft baffles and infuriates me w/these bugs!
