A billionaire can get what they want with one donation to a political party. The rest of us must fight for years to get even the most basic rights recognised. Money destroys democracy, more than any other cause. The first step towards a better world is to stop the rich buying political outcomes.
@georgemonbiot.bsky.social The Biden president didn't think so, even though he pretended to be a Democrat.
Under Biden, America got 150 countries to agree a 15% global corporate tax. Under Trump, America gets an exemption

Scott Bessent called it “a historic victory in preserving U.S. sovereignty and protecting American workers and businesses from extraterritorial overreach."

Okay. But we still need to overturn #CitizensUnited and take away the ABILITY for billionaires to donate large amounts in the first place.

That needs to be the primary goal. And I don't think most politicians-- in either party, including #EstablishmentDemocrats -- will ever be willing to do so.

Backing politicians because they push back a bit against #IncomeDisparity is fine; but by itself, it is merely a small temporary victory, and is doomed to be a neverending uphill battle.

Citizens United - top priority

It's weird though. Americans seem unbothered by the fact that foreign billionaires are buying their elections

Petr Aven, Vadim Moshkovich, & Alwaleed bin Talal gave Elon Musk the money to meddle in US elections

Putin has openly said he spent $300 million to buy Brexit & get Trump elected

Billions are being funneled into GOP coffers from straw donors hidden in PAC's, DAF's, corporations, hedge funds

@AnneTheWriter1 @Npars01 @gert @georgemonbiot.bsky.social

You don't think establishment Democrats will vote to overturn Citizens United based upon what evidence? Let's be clear about who has failed this country based upon the evidence.

A full 12% of Bernie Sanders supporters voted for Trump, without them, Hillary would have become president and appointed three non corrupt Supreme Court justices. I would argue there is much more evidence the Bernie crowd is the issue.

@HakeemG @AnneTheWriter1 @Npars01 @georgemonbiot.bsky.social Would Hillary have been less evil?

@gert @AnneTheWriter1 @Npars01 @georgemonbiot.bsky.social

Less evil than who, Bernie? Yes.

Hillary had a long history of voting for things that helped the poor and marginalized people of America. Going all the way back to her days as first lady when she championed health insurance for poor kids.
