@Zarkonnen Thanks, it really makes you think. I think that comprehension is a big problem here, especially if you are making art or games that are supposed to be played by a lot of people. You don't want to alienate them by showing them something too alien. What they really want is something familiar, where they are comfortable, with just a few small details for spicing things up. Rubber foreheads, basically.
By the way, I really like the art of Alex Ries, with his non-humanoid Birrin.
