Search & Destroy: How to Leave Google Behind - Matt Tutt - NoToBigTech.Org - E82
PeerTubeI know I might sound pessimistic - but from looking at the website, the the NoToBigTech website only seems to be about conducting webinars and educating people on how to transition. It's fine and all, but I've seen multiple other organisations/websites trying to do similar things (I forgot most of them though but I know there's at least a handful) and they're all limited in their success because we assume the average person came to the same realisation as us that bigtech is evil and we need to say no.
Obviously people know big tech corporations are evil, but the average person has come to terms with it and treats them as a necessary evil. Sure we can try to 'educate' them but that's fall flat when you realise people who stumble onto these kinds of non-profits, FOSS, etc is if they're already looking for them. Many people aren't. The only way we can successfully say 'no' to big-tech is large-scale, heavily organised movements and protests. I know I might sound radical but I don't mean anything like "Occupy Google HQ" or whatever. Just something like your weekly online cause that gets hashtags, articles and most importantly, gets people talking. I want to see organisations that can organise and promote that level of awareness.
