Europe must be ready before the first fire even starts.

We’re acting against devastating wildfires:
🔶 Making landscapes more resistant to fires
🔶 Expanding the EU’s joint firefighting fleet
🔶 Pre-positioning European firefighters in vulnerable places
🔶 Establishing a European firefighting hub in Cyprus
🔶 Developing satellite and AI-based tools to better predict and manage wildfires
🔶 Involving Europeans in wildfire preparedness through a European Citizens’ Panel

@EUCommission "Deploying beavers" is definitely missing in this list of actions.
Hey @McHollander that's actually a great idea, thank you for mentioning beavers! They play a very important role in our ecosystem, and that's why they are protected by our Habitats Directive.
We also funded this project that aimed to raise awareness of the benefits that beavers bring to the environment. Take a look at the results: https://webgate.ec.europa.eu/life/publicWebsite/project/LIFE19-GIE-SI-001111/life-with-the-beaver-wetlands-and-climate-change

@EUCommission I'm very glad to mention beavers.

And just so anyone reading this understands what they have to do with wildfire prevention: beavers *create* their own wetland habitats that are extremely wild fire resistant. They also help prevent droughts in the first place by keeping water in place during the year (and help prevent floods by slowing down water during high rain activity).
