Ridiculous overkill

Only biological #female #athletes, whose gender will be determined by a one-time gene-screening test, will now be eligible to take part in female category events at the #OlympicGames, the International Olympic Committee (#IOC) said Thursday.

@Nonilex no trans women even participated last time — the whole issue is a distraction

@mkoek

Exactly. And Olympic level athletes have been scrutinized all their lives, training since childhood, undergoing health checks, a team of trainers around them. Their identities are well established. It’s political theater.

@Nonilex @mkoek Don’t presume to play sport, achieve athletic prowess on an international stage, if you are a woman. Perhaps there need to be a new and separate games for women and trans people : run by inclusive people who care about sport and the ability to participate, not misogynists.
@mkoek
It's partly to impose a definition of "biological sex" that excludes females assigned at birth and who have XY chromosomes.
They're not satisfied with demanding to know what's in womens' pants and want to know what's in their genes.
@Nonilex
@Nonilex the Nazis were obsessed with Genes too
@Nonilex Setting the transphobia aside (and it absolutely should NOT be ignored), haven’t I read that a certain percentage of people develop in the womb into a sex different from the one indicated by their chromosomes (I am not a biologist)? I wonder how common it is and how many of those people will be caught up in this too.
@Nonilex
This opens up the door for “biologically male” athletes that have XX chromosomes to compete against women. And what about people with rare conditions that give them three or four chromosomes? These rare conditions occur naturally at rates higher than the rate of the Olympic athletes from a general population (it’s more common to have three or four chromosomes than be an Olympic athlete). What a stupid, ignorant decision from the IOC.
