Prius in at the shop (Steve Steeb), hoping that the noisy motor is just a rattle and not a structural problem! Symptom is that there's a loud rattle at low idle, but quiet operations on the battery motor. The heat shield will be the first thing to look at.
Also hopeful that it all gets resolved before the rain comes through, since I'm on foot.

Loose heat shield was some of the noise (easy to fix), very loose rear wheel bearing the rest of the noise (yikes, but also fixable).
I couldn't hear the wheel bearing because the heat shield was so noisy.
I measure car repairs in bicycle money, so this will seem expensive by that measure, but not unduly expensive as car repair goes.
@w8emv That's a relief that it isn't expensive by car repair standards!
Your bicycle comment reminds me that I need to get maintenance done on my bicycle.
