This is fascinating.

I have some optic nerve damage (my mother bizarrely never thought to tell me I would probably inherit #glaucoma until I did in fact develop glaucoma), and although cataract surgery saved my sight, I have some optic nerve-related deficits because it wasn't caught early enough.

But enough about shitty mothers.
