do you ever watch a video that criticizes a show you like, and you agree with said video, to the point where you now don't like the show anymore
yeah anyways if i had more Brain Time to spare doing critical media analysis, i wouldn't have ended up in this situation to begin with lmfao
i'll just make this short since i wanna go to bed, "the boys" show does... way more performative pandering than i really noticed. it commentates on issues on a very surface level, usually not going further than saying "haha, corporations bad"
furthermore, it seems the original comic it was based on... was unfairly trashed by people. it might not be high art, but it had some good writing in it, it would seem. at least, better writing than the show goes for, with character arcs being over within the literal first season, and them desperately attempting to undo said arcs over the course of the next seasons.
and it misses the mark completely on the social commentary those characters were making, instead erasing them in favor of "orange man bad" essentially. flattening the characters down a shitton, just to make pandering comments.
i think i liked the show, if only because there hasn't been much media that directly talks about these issues. ...but just because that's the case, doesn't mean it's good when all they're doing is *just saying it*, without meaningfully commentating on the impacts that has, beyond just "well it's bad and people who do it are bad".
so yeah. eh. not into the show anymore lmfao. oh well
