The simplest definition is: "rule by the people". But how can "the people" rule?
For that to happen "the people" must be consulted on everything, in real time, which would require everyone to be plugged into some sort of hive mind. A nightmare scenario.
Better to settle for something less than perfection, I reckon. Australia's implementation of Democracy, with "the people" electing representatives preferentially, is less imperfect than most. Hare-Clark might be an improvement.
The worst problem is manipulation of perceptions to influence votes. That's where the #media comes in.

@DropBear (1/2) Democracy is NOT the people and their so-called representatives being controlled by billionaires, which is the system we currently operate under.
In a perfect true democracy everyone should have a say. Almost everyone in this country has a smartphone, just saying.
@DropBear (2/2) I don't claim to have all the answers but I will continue to point out that the "control" we believe we have is an illusion which works remarkably well for those that have the actual control to keep us all in line.
Understanding of our reality is the first step towards changing that reality.
