ChrisToday I had the opportunity to see how much energy my cars AC could use (it’s electric and also uses the heat pump for battery conditioning stuff). Turns out it’s a lot. It had charged to 100% while baking in the sun. Left it plugged in while getting in (it was pulling 0W at this point) and then just waited for the AC to bring the cabin down to temps. The charging interface said it pulled up to 26 amps at 200V - over 5kW!
It sustainedthis draw for over 5mins, until the system and cabin had cooled down and it started to relax. The energy statics say I normally spend around 10% of the battery on AC. I guess most of that is spent during the first 10 minutes of each drive.
