NM specifically banned armed federal law enforcement from polling sites earlier this month, other states might...But for regressive state legislatures, I dunno, it's probably gonna take a variety of tactics.
Going forward, and within institutions: it's fact that state legislatures with more women in them -tend- to mostly still be functional rather than corrupt
Micah@CJPaloma SCOTUS is deciding soon whether to overturn ballot grace periods that allow mail-in ballots to be counted if they were postmarked before election day but received a couple days after. Even if they don't overturn, the USPS this past December changed procedures such that the postmark date is likely not to be the date that you dropped off the mail. The only way to make sure is to get it hand postmarked at the USPS counter.
@cubspirit right, Laws ALREADY vary by state. In my state: mail in ballots have -always- had to be in the counting rooms by close of election day.
ballot drop off boxes are available for many places, (I know access can be difficult for some) I've personally used them about as often as US mail when I've done mail in voting.
another option is to hand deliver the filled out ballot to a polling site, which most jurisdictions do as well. I know it sort of defeats the purpose, but it's faster. 🤷♀️
