#TheBoys Season 2

It's getting going now, from episode 3.

I hated Stormfront from the beginning but now her character is having a purpose to the story.

It's going places now.

Billy Butcher is an interesting character. He's a flawed hero. He's not always very nice, but somehow he's still one of the good guys.

I'm curious about him not being played by a cockney.

The character is kind of a parody of the cockney geezer in British gangster movies or something. He's kind of over the top and quite funny. His dialogue is a parody of British swear words -- swearing that's slightly misused, and not quite how British people speak, but also, kind of, yeah, that's how they speak.

I think the character works better because the actor isn't British. And I sort of imagine the character not working well if the actor was British.

He's hilarious though.

@lydiaconwell it's called acting. It's the trade, pretend to be something you are not.
@ytc1 Thank you for missing my point.
@lydiaconwell Flaws in verisimilitude enhances the portrait of a broken soul?

@hakona Well, I say he's in part a joke character -- over the top -- so by using a non-British actor it emphasises the parody element of the character. So it allows the character to be completely nuts and brings out more comedy in the character.

That's kind of what I'm trying to say.

If it was a British actor, they might try to play Butcher with a bit more seriousness which wouldn't work so well.

@lydiaconwell
He's more an anti-hero, I'd say.

Can't comment on the language-relared humor, I thought he was an Aussie

@mattesilver The actor is from New Zealand I think, but the character is British.
@lydiaconwell I mean I thought the character was Australian, didn't think how much it's the character or the actor, just sounded to off for a Brit to my ears. But what do I know
@mattesilver It is a bit off, but it's a pretty good accent too.
