cardinal in the tree!!
- one thing i selfishly love about winter is that i can spot the birds so much more easily in the bare branches than when the leaves are out (selfish because that's probably not good for the bird)
- it's so exciting to actually see a northern cardinal because i'm not used to seeing colourful birds like that! sparrow, pigeon, duck, goose, yes, but to see a shock of red in the trees, when i happen to be at a good angle so the bird isn't completely backlit by the sky β what a treat!
this is my best textual impression of my neighbourhood #birds
πͺΎ house sparrow: tweep twop tweep twop
ποΈ mourning dove: ooooh-whoa, oooh ooh-oooh
πΊ northern cardinal: doo-wop doo-wop, dweeee dweee bup-bup-bup-bup-bup
π¦ blue jay: caaaw caw
π© black-capped chickadee: teee-ee hoo
π robin: eep... eep (this is one of their calls that I think is funny because it sounds like the squeak of a chair or something)
@kayserifserif These are great! We have a lot of the same around here. We also have some gray catbirds that sound like little kittens mewing when they call.
Iβve found I can do a decent impression of a mourning dove call by hand whistling:
