OMGs! Starting up some #Retrocon #SciFi analysis of #UFO and #Space1999! Yes! They were the same Timeline! Why else was Moonbase Alpha armed with weaponized Eagles (Hawks)! However, who decided it was a good idea to store NUCLEAR WASTE ON THE MOON! (Sounds very #Trumpian / #ElonMusk, am I right?)
@DoomsdaysCW
(So many reasons why some of us UFO! fans ignore that Space 1999 ever happened.)
@n1vux @DoomsdaysCW I rewatched a couple of UFO episodes recently. Mega schlock. Hasn’t aged very well, but whatever.
@MrBirch @DoomsdaysCW
Right, UFO didn't age well 4 decades+ now, much social commentary can be made in retrospect (e.g. hot sexy female officers in the command chain and forward deployed was alas still progressive then, only a few years after Lt Uhura, but make the uniforms even hotter);
but Space 1999 didn't age well 2 weeks, or even 2 commercial breaks, if you took physics and didn't take drugs while watching.
Serious refrigerator logic fail.
And the purple wigs! And yeah, there was a serious lack of real science on Space 1999. For instance, I think I remember reading that the Moon would have collided with Earth, not get launched into space. @n1vux @MrBirch

@DoomsdaysCW

Their purple wigs may* have been trend setters ...
i've seen lots of hair colors not found in nature in music&scifi circles

since about 1999 iirc, so right on time?

[ that time when a hotel tub looked like a crimescene (lovely red washout-dye didn't) ]

* I'd guess Manga had primary-color hair first, but perhaps UFO had it in anglosphere mainstream first?
