included the question
“are you feeling
down, depressed, or hopeless?”
which seemed to me
like a rather rude way of asking
“are you paying attention
to the state of the world?”

I usually respond to the nurse with “yeah, you know - the normal amount.”

I have heard that in parts of Scandinavia, the response to "how are you?" is "Upright and not crying" and that's about the best answer I can give these days.

Hm. Except for me, the crying is there. Grief stricken at a world destroyed, and my grandchildren left to pick up the pieces, survive the best they can
