@gavi my approach in terms of focus has been just.. doing what seems interesting in the moment i guess? different stuff comes up in the process so it still gives a variety of things to practice, and it keeps things more enjoyable for me
overall though i'd say drawing from references a lot helps (especially with getting the hang of perspective and anatomy in my experience). imo the key thing is using that to get an understanding of how that works, like trying to figure out how to break it down into parts/shapes and trying to convey those, rather than copying the overall silhouette. drawing the shapes over photos i'm referencing can also help, i found it useful when i feel stuck trying to figure out how to get things right for whatever i'm drawing
i've found
https://line-of-action.com/ quite useful for doing different human poses and animals, though there are some other categories there too, i just haven't done them so i can't really comment on that
https://www.adorkastock.com/ also has a lot of good references for poses and is my first place of choice if i need to find a reference for a pose
