With the huge wave of migrations we're seeing:

You might want to give a day or two to your new follows/follow requests before deciding that it's just an empty profile.

The migration process can take a day, people might not do it in the exact right way, etc.

Lots of "empty profiles" get filled the next day! Don't lose your old connections! 😊

@stephanie
Good reminder, thanks Stéphanie.

@stephanie thanks! I have never understood why this is. Do you know?

I do not allow new followers when they have empty profiles due to past experience with spammers. Now I fear maybe I have been blocking legitimate accounts. 😬

@scott I think the federation in between instances take some time? I'm not sure! I also need to accept new followers; I usually give them a day before refusing!

@stephanie @scott

I will actually give them a few weeks or more, just to give their account a chance to sort itself out if they are migrating and/or give them a chance to find their footing if they are new.

The follow request stays forever until I actually accept or deny, so I can't miss it.

If there is nothing after that (or red flags), then 🤷‍♀️

@Her_Doing @scott Yes, that's pretty much what I do too!
@scott @stephanie It depends on how you move. I usually open a new account and manually transfer instead of doing an official move. I like the decluttering this way.
@scott @stephanie You can click through your blocked lists and review if you are worried you blocked somebody too early
@Bowreality @stephanie oh that’s great, I didn’t know that!

@stephanie It takes my instance up to 7 days to refresh an account’s details, if it doesn’t get pushed to me.

It really depends on how the instances are configured 😥

@stephanie

What is the flight about this time anything particular? I came in on the fall 22 with the purchase of twitter by the poster child for the evils of capitalism.

@Crystal_Fish_Caves it's from mstdn.ca; the solo admin was accused of fraud by his community league.
