Edit: all done and restored. Easily, just took a deep breath, read the clear instructions and followed them, step by step.

Thanks for all the suggestions!

Does anyone know how to recover a single deleted chat from my Signal app? I meant to delete a message I sent, having just heard of a sudden loss, and deciding the message was not a thing to send at that time, and accidentally deleted the whole chat history from one contact.

I have Signal connected on two other devices, neither of which have I opened since doing that. I also have backups enabled.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

@elliek maybe you could disconnect what ever internet those devices would have used to contact the Signal servers, power up the devices, and both export and back up those messages, before allowing them to reconnect?

If the export works you'd have a copy of whatever was locally stored / cached.

Once they connect to the Signal servers you should expect it to delete those messages within the program; as I would expect that restoring a deleted thread from another device is not a supported workflow, but I don't know

@datum
Thanks.
I have both secure backups and on device backups. The on device one would be the better one (as I only have 45 days of media on the secure one). But connecting my Android Samsung device via cable to my laptop to copy my on device backup there just opens a blank window on my laptop folder. I obviously have to give permission to the phone to show any files on my phone. I can't figure that one out at the moment. Arggh.

@elliek Ah I saw another reply saying you couldn't restore from backup as it would wipe the messages you want.

Definitely "make two clean copies of the backup while offline, put one of those copies on a USB stick and unplug that and put it on a shelf, then restore from a good backup" would also be my recommendation if any backup has preserved what you want!
