@mcc I think they call it code switching? The algorithm probably doesn't like gray. It's prettier as a shaft encoder design than as a mixed up binary counter with lights that should really have been the same tint.

One of my hand-coded PostScript docs was a Gray code that I pinned to the cube partition to baffle or charm visitors.
