I think I screwed up.
After finishing Trails in the Sky, I decided to start Ys X Proud Nordics last night.
While I’m still early in and only done the first mini dungeon, if you can even call it that, I did really enjoy it.

Today I kept thinking why the title just said “Nordics”.
Just looked at the box and I installed the wrong version.
I don’t even know if the save file i compatible with the improved release. I doubt it. 😭
Oh well.
I get to do it all again tonight…

Thought so… 😭

@outofprintarchive There is literally no reason the save data wouldn't be 100% compatible. It doesn't change the engine or the base game mechanics anything like that.

I guess this is just a case of the OS intentionally limits access from one to the other. Likely not limiting this game specifically, just in general I'd bet. That's a thing they do now because of the theoretical capacity for saves to carry exploits (though off the top of my head I can't think of any ever doing so in anything remotely modernish?)

At least I don't have too much to catch up on as I can skip all the dialogue this time, until I get to the point I called it a night yesterday.

Bit of an adjustment going from Trails to a fully action JRPG like this again.
But I'm slowly getting used to the battle system and it's just as fun as in 8, only way more versatile.

Not much character development so far as the story has yet to really start, but already enjoying the dynamic between Adol and Karja.

And the soundtrack is yet again incredible.

So for #VGM Wednesday, it's an easy pick:

I had a similar issue with my digital copy of gravity rush and a physical copy with a different region. bummer :/

@hobbs

That can actually work in your advantage as well in rare cases.
I actually bought a US copy of Sleeping Dogs since it also has a different region code, unlike the many universal games we see these days.
So it got a different trophy list as well.
And seeing how it's one of my favourite games, I got it so I can 100% it all over again one day. 😄

@outofprintarchive
I have decided to just finish my playthrough with the digital copy and install the physical one if I ever wanna play again.

that's a solid point, though. I rarely do any acheivement hunting but maybe I should start.

@outofprintarchive I suppose this is one potential downside to being a collector. Sometimes you grab the wrong version off the shelf. 😆

That's irritating but like you said, hopefully you can just rush through everything and get back to where you were.

@outofprintarchive Are you far in? Does it get better? I tried a bit of Ys 10 and I don't know, to me it just really felt like it was missing something. It failed utterly to draw me in at all. Maybe I'm just expecting too much after 8 and 9, but it just seemed to lack that atmosphere and depth those had. Even Ys 7 drew me in more.

Plus, darn, I can't believe they're still using that ancient engine. It's so far past time to upgrade to something more modern that I just don't even know what's going on... I loved Ys 8 and 9 as I said, but wow did the engine hold them back... They've added more polys, slightly higher resolution textures, but it still looks like when you play a PS2 game in an emulator. 😆 I don't mind that so much as limits like area size/complexity and etc though.

@nazokiyoubinbou

I'm not far into it at all.
Just got up to the light house and I tend to take my time and talk to everyone, like in Trails.

@outofprintarchive Ah, well, it's obviously drawing you in more than it did me.

Perhaps it's just me. I don't know. With everything these days it's getting harder and harder to truly enjoy anything. If you're enjoying it, I hope you enjoy it all the way through to the end.

(Also I really like to take my time in things like this too. Immersing oneself is perhaps the best part, and if you rush through it ends all too soon.)

@nazokiyoubinbou

Oh, I get that all too well.

The only things keeping me sane these days are my studies and hobbies.
And at times I'm only hanging on by a thread it feels like.
