Was #soldering earlier with my open source PCB magnet clamps and a dodgy old tin. They are great for holding bigger bits.. like motors, but I often mount one to the side of the tin for holding wires for tinning. @concretedog I've a surprisingly useful 10mm steel plate I keep in my repair cafe kit. Useful as an anvil and a flat surface. Having seen those I need to print my self a set of those clamps, they look really handy.
@emily_s Yeah I have all manner of lumps of steel in spaces... very handy things to have. I also often end up using these clamps on white boards!
