I wouldn't describe it as a "tool." My trilogy MC is a singer/songwriter in a band so I included songs in there.

My Dragon Age books make fun of how royals have minstrels singing their songs like old-time propaganda. Each chapter begins with a line from Jade's glorious song, which is shown to be less on the mark as the reader sees how events actual played out.
