KBHousing Secretary Steve Reed attempted to bat away speculation about the circumstances in which McSweeney lost his phone, claiming it had been stolen “maybe even over a year before the whole [Mandelson] situation arose”.
But it has now emerged that the phone was stolen on October 20, 2025, around a month after Mandelson was sacked as the ambassador to the US.
