In Kursk Oblast his artillery unit was building firing positions on the Ukrainian-Russian border, when his commanders were wounded by a Russian drone. He was one of 22 Ukrainian soldiers encircled that day.

President Zelenskyy named him the youngest Hero of Ukraine, after taking command, performing emergency medical treatment to stabilize his commanders, before leading 21 other soldiers out of encirclement, back to safety.
