On #StarTrek they can go from traveling at warp 9 to a full stop within seconds without the people on the ship flying forward and splatting into the wall. #AllStarTrek

@jxself

There's an actual theory around due to Alcubierre that results, iirc, in the ship not actually moving. Space sort of moves around it, but faster than light. The ship itself always has a low velocity & basically glides around in a space bubble.

Scientists Announce a Physical Warp Drive Is Now Possible. Seriously.

For the first time, scientists have introduced a physical model for warp drive. That means humans are one step closer to traveling at faster-than-light speeds.

@johnefrancis @jxself It’s the rocks in the ceiling that power the inertial dampers on Starfleet ships. Unfortunately those ceiling rocks also cause exploding consoles.
@sezduck @johnefrancis That actually makes perfect sense. All that excess energy has to to somewhere so the exploding consoles are just pressure release valves. It's a feature, not a bug. Exploding consoles are the price you pay for not splatting into the viewscreen. #StarTrek #AllStarTrek
@jxself That's why they always talk about these inertial dampeners, time to dampen that newton guy outta here
@ln Perhaps you're taking my post too seriously.
