For early adopters, embracing OS X came with conviction and commitment and serious performance penalty due to having run many older apps through Classic. It was usable to some degree, but it wasn’t surprising if you just booted into #Mac OS 9 to get work done. #MARCHintosh
@adacosta I remember that transition well. I remember the upgrade to OS X being fairly painless on our G4 Cube, and most stuff ran under the Classic environment pretty well. I don't recall which version OS X we first got though, probably 10.2 as I distinctly remember the ribbed UI theme.
@sconient A lot of the rough edges had smooth out by Jaguar (10.2), but the stories I remember from 10.0 and even 10.1, application compatibility and performance remained a big issue. The graphics accelerator QuickDraw 3D was re-written for 10.1 which significantly made the OS more snappy. I noticed 10.0.3 just slows down throughout the day without doing much, graphics are choppy and glitchy.
