i appreciate the attempt to defend the real value of formal training in the humanities, or of technical-humanities connections, but we need to abandon the idea that the value of humanities education is in making people ethical. think for a second about the sort of people who, historically, have gotten classical educations. whose ethics are we talking about here?
for current examples: alex karp majored in philosophy at a liberal arts school associated with a peace church and went on to get a phd in social theory before cofounding palantir. thiel also a philosophy major. palmer luckey (anduril) majored in journalism.
@isidoremohr i think the point is the people who went deep into debt studying freud etc are bitter and want to feel superior to other people, and the irony of that is lost on them
