Can we create a new internet, that is exactly the same as the old internet? By "old internet" I mean late 90s, early to mid 2000's.

We don't have to shut down the current internet. It can go on and people who want to use it can use it to get the algorithm feed.

blogs, rss feeds, interesting articles, experimental stuff. a half decent search engine.
There's the dark web, which I don't know a lot about, but seems to use the same infrastructure but somehow be totally orthogonal to the regular internet. Can we have a light web?
Funny. I just listened to the latest episode of @latenightlinux and they said almost exactly the same thing - new Internet, like the dark web but not as dark. No wonder it's my favorite podcast.
@bit101 there is the gemini protocol (https://geminiprotocol.net/), there are not a lot of people using it but I find it peaceful everytime I open my gemini browser
I have the project to open a capsule (the word for website) there
Project Gemini

@bit101 have you heard of https://marginalia-search.com/ ? it takes a thorough look at its crawling results and surfacing many attributes usually hidden. Author has a good weblog and posts on mastodon too
Marginalia Search

Marginalia Search is a small independent do-it-yourself search engine for surprising but content-rich websites that never ask you to accept cookies or subscribe to newsletters. The goal is to bring you the sort of grass fed, free range HTML your grandma used to write.

Marginalia Search
@wupatz Nice, I added it as a custom search engine in zen browser
@bit101 you know, all this never really went away. It's just hard to see behind all the commercial, promotional internet
@delcano I know. I just want a place where that's all there is.
@bit101 then yes, you might want to explore Gemini
@delcano Gemini the google AI thing?
@bit101 no no no, Gemini the network protocol https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gemini_(protocol)
Gemini (protocol) - Wikipedia

@delcano ahhhh that makes SO much more sense.
