Loch Neagh - again….

Government and so led environmental agencies have sat on their arses for years - to scared of vested interests with no thought of the future, be that the wastrel the Earl of Shaftesbury or cost cutting farmers. You really have to wonder whether humanity is worth the effort of saving.

Eel fisher takes on authorities at Belfast court over pollution in UK’s largest lake

Declan Conlon will argue officials have failed to act despite clear evidence of the ecological collapse of Lough Neagh

@Wen The useless lot at Stormont should be taking action that forces Shaftsbury to sell the his ownership and interest in the bed of Lough Neagh to the people of Northern Ireland for £1. He contributes nothing, but gets a fee for every tonne of sand extracted from it. Friends of the Earth won a high court action years ago stopping this, but the SDLPs Nichola Mallon reinstated it when she was an MLA. (1/2)
The DUP have opposed every mitigating and regenerative action, because their core vote is the farming community, a sizeable portion of which are around Lough Neagh. And Lurgan - Portadown which is a loyalist/unionist heartland. They don’t care about the future, or about the environment. They tend to have the biblical attitude that God put man in charge of all, and thus can continue making a polluting mess, as long as they are making money, retaining votes and control. (2/2)
