@Euan I think she came up with the term as an English version of whatever it is in Gallifreyan. When we hear Time Lords use the term we are just hearing the TARDIS using Susan's English version.

I also think she's the sort of girl who would learn to speak English rather than rely on the telepathic circuits (which she would have needed to once she was left on Earth)
