My driver's license doesn't expire for 2 months, but I have to take a vision test, so I started looking into getting a real ID as a "just in case" (I have passport until the full Handmaid's Tale is ushered in).

Despite the IL Secretary of State insisting one can make an online appointment, the website goes in circles. The most "productive" path led to a 404 page.

@matildazq Call to make appt. On hold for 15 min with a recording repeating I can make the appt online. I name the site I want to make one at. "That's a walk-in place." I am staring at the sheet with my renewal notice, which clearly says, "By Appointment Only."

Guy repeats, "It's walk-in." I'm exhausted, so I say, "Ok, just so you know, the information on the mailer is wrong." He says, "I understand. Also, there's a computer outage. They can't processes licenses."
#Enshittification

@matildazq #enshitification is the neatest word... it sounds exactly what it is. It a real thing. My daughter was telling me about the crap service she had from our local pharmacy yesterday. Dunno why... but stuff is falling apart. #entropy I guess

@maxelcat

Two things come to mind.
1. The lingering impact/trauma of the pandemic (that isn't actually over).
2. Chronic understaffing driven by the unrelenting pressure of quarterly profits combined with insane corporate consolidation and the remaining companies very intentionally putting locally owned establishments out of business.

We get most if not quite all of our meds from the local owned pharmacy. I think we end up paying less overall, but we're fine if we don't.

@matildazq

@joeinwynnewood @matildazq sure you're right. Staff are grumpy and surly... sign of overwork I guess
