Hey I’ve never had Covid, but suddenly have flu like symptoms and cannot taste or smell a damn thing. Should I take a Covid test?

@cpkimber Yes. If you can get a combo rapid antigen test for influenza and covid, that would be ideal.
Tests will be positive earlier in the symptom course for influenza, later (after day 4) for covid. Serial testing every 2 days recommended. Sometimes people have co-infections also (both positive). If you are positive, you can try to get antivirals or even metformin for covid to prevent long covid.

@huskify thanks! My Covid antigen test is negative. I’ll try again in a few days.

Note: The Omicron (BA) strains from early 2022 were identified as coming from some unidentified rodent (non rat) animal in 2022. Possibly the four stripe mouse.

It was originally from humans to them.

With BA.3.2 that pandemic continues to seed new immune evading variants in humans and is still not generally recognized as being a repeating zoonosis pandemic between them and us.

That sounds interesting -- where can I read more about the jump from rodents to humans?
