I was going down the metro stairs when I saw a pretty nice brown-and-gray scarf left on the steps. Not wanting it to take more damage lying there or, more seriously, for someone to accidentally slip on it, I picked it up and looped it around the nearest point in the stair's railing. This way I figured the owner would see it if they decided to retrace their steps, and that it would make discovery likelier than leaving it with the station office since the person might have no idea where on their route they had dropped it. Or someone who wanted/needed a scarf might take it, which is technically a crime (embezzlement of lost articles) but one with a relatively low occurrence in Korea.

I'm curious, what would you do in a similar scenario on a public staircase near where you live? This is assuming you're not in a hurry or very tired.
