Friends dont let friends run ANY commercial router software... OpenWrt VM on a MiniPC is the way to go.

You have a very good point there. In fact, I would think things like raspberry pie or whatever is replacing it because I think raspberry pie has become some sort of horror show, but I don’t follow the stuff anymore might become really popular

OpenWrt on a Raspberry Pi 4 with a ue300 USB NIC was my router from 2020 to 2025 when I shifted to my #guixrouter VM. It would handle a gigabit connection without breaking a sweat.
