My favorite recent "kids say the darnedest things"

- Guy shows his 10yo a 1-piece wood/metal chair every school had in the 50s and kid says "where do you store your water bottle?"

- Scott Simpson's teen asking "dad, before phones did everyone have a small flashlight they walked around with?"

I forgot to mention the followups, which were also great:

- Dad: we only got access to water fountains at a couple breaks in the day, I know it sounds wild kid

- Scott: we had to memorize layouts of our home hallways in our heads but also regularly stubbed our toes in the dark

@mathowie Some of us did have a favorite flashlight for reading under the covers in bed and hunting for earthworms in the lawn -- and probably for walking around the neighborhood on Halloween.
@mathowie somebody recently was ranting about the water bottles in school and they said "it's not like we were dehydrated." I pointed out that in retrospect I almost certainly had been dehydrated almost every day and I wished water bottles had been a thing.
@mathowie matt i need to sit down (i was already sitting down)
@mathowie To Scott Simpson's teen, I say, "Yes, some of us did."
@mathowie Funny thing: my first iPhone (3G) didn’t have a flash. So I started carrying a tiny flashlight. And I still do.
@mathowie I did! and still do!
@mathowie My youngest recently started asking me what it was like in the Olden Days.
